Turd Tracker
How It WorksTurd Tracker uses smart location technology to help you keep trails clean. Mark bags you encounter, get reminded when you're nearby, and make sure nothing gets left behind.1. Tag a Bag
See an abandoned bag on the trail? Tap the map to drop a pin at that location. You can tag it and grab it immediately to earn cleanup points, or continue your hike and get it on the way back.2. Keep Hiking
Continue your adventure. The app tracks your location in the background (even when your phone is locked) so you can focus on the trail.3. Get Reminded
When you pass within 200 meters of a tagged bag, you'll get a gentle notification. At 100 meters, you'll get a stronger alert with haptic feedback. If you miss both alerts and leave the 200m zone, you'll get a backup reminder after 24 hours.4. Retrieve & Earn Points
Grab the bag, mark it as retrieved in the app, and earn cleanup points. Track your impact over time!Key Features
- Dual-Zone Geofencing: Escalating reminders ensure you never miss a bag
- Background Tracking: Works even when your phone is locked or you're using other apps
- Offline Capable: GPS works without cell service - perfect for remote trails
- 24-Hour Reminders: Missed a bag? Get a gentle reminder the next day
- Simple Points System: Track your cleanup impact
- Privacy First: No accounts required, no social pressureFrequently Asked QuestionsDo I need cell service for the app to work?
No! GPS works offline. You can tag bags and receive notifications without any cell service. The app works perfectly on remote trails. Will this drain my battery?
The app is optimized for minimal battery impact. It uses efficient background location tracking only when you have active tagged bags, and the dual-zone geofencing system is designed to conserve power. What happens if I forget to mark a bag as retrieved?
Bags never expire. After 24 hours you will get an additional reminder. You can also extend a bag's reminder for another 24 hours if needed, or delete it from your list at any time. Can I disable notifications?
Yes! You can customize notification settings in the app. You can disable the 24-hour backup reminder or adjust other notification preferences in Settings. How accurate are the location reminders?
GPS accuracy is typically within 5-10 meters in good conditions. The dual-zone system (200m gentle alert, 100m urgent alert) gives you plenty of room to spot the bag even with normal GPS variance.Does the app share my location data?
No. Turd Tracker is completely private. All location data stays on your device. We don't collect, store, or share any of your location information.Do I need to create an account?
Nope! Just download and start using it. No login, no account, no social pressure. What if I'm hiking a loop trail vs. an out-and-back?
The app works for both! It reminds you whenever you pass within range of a tagged bag, regardless of your route. Perfect for loops, out-and-backs, or exploring off-trail.Can I tag multiple bags?
Yes! Tag as many bags as you encounter. The app tracks them all and reminds you individually as you pass by each location. What if I pass a bag but can't grab it right then?
No problem! The 24-hour reminder will nudge you the next day. You can also manually extend the reminder for another 24 hours if needed. Why does the app need location permissions?
Location permissions allow the app to create geofences around tagged bags and send you reminders when you're nearby. This is the core functionality - without it, the app can't notify you when you're close to a bag.Does this work on Android?
Currently Turd Tracker is iOS only. We're considering Android development if there's enough demand!Troubleshooting
I'm not getting notifications
1. Make sure you've granted location permissions (Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Turd Tracker > "Always")
2. Check that notifications are enabled (Settings > Notifications > Turd Tracker)
3. Ensure you're within 200m of a tagged bag
4. Try force-quitting and restarting the appThe app isn't tracking my location in the background
Make sure Location Services is set to "Always" (not "While Using"). This is required for background geofencing to work.GPS seems inaccurate
GPS accuracy depends on satellite visibility and environmental conditions. Dense tree cover, canyons, or buildings can reduce accuracy. The dual-zone system (200m/100m) helps account for normal GPS variance.Contact & FeedbackHave a question, found a bug, or have a feature request?
